This isn’t beginners luck for this little bakery, café and eatery, however, but boils down to the twenty years of baking and breaking bread in their home country of Denmark; where owner-bakers Ole Kristoffersen and Steen Skallebæk are behind the beloved Lagkagehuset chain. Land at Copenhagen airport, and you can thank them for the smell of fresh bread that makes your Danish welcome extra delicious.
Here in London, this is their first location outside of Denmark. The space is filled with a well-suited clientele, slender furniture and a handsome curving slate bar, upon which samples of custard pastries, cinnamon rolls and buttered rye bread are sliced for sampling (to which yours truly obliges with great enthusiasm).
Come for a coffee and a rhubarb crescent, nosh on an open-faced sandwich or one of the many exquisitely art directed salads. Linger over a glass from the list of new world wines or make a quick visit to grab a loaf of one of their many varieties of freshly baked bread to take home.
